MoFPI Initiatives Drive Growth for Small and Medium Food Processing Enterprises

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is actively fostering the growth of food processing entrepreneurs, particularly small and medium enterprises, through various schemes aimed at industry establishment and expansion. These initiatives include the Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI), and the PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme. All programs are demand-driven, benefiting entrepreneurs nationwide without regional restrictions.

Key Schemes and Progress

  1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY):

    • Provides credit-linked financial assistance (capital subsidies).
    • Allocated ₹5,520 crore under the 15th Finance Commission Cycle.
    • Achievements (as of October 31, 2024):
      • 41 Mega Food Parks sanctioned.
      • 399 Cold Chain projects approved.
      • 76 Agro-Processing Clusters and 559 Food Processing Units funded.
      • 61 Backward & Forward Linkages and 51 Operation Green projects initiated.
  2. PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME):

    • Offers financial, technical, and business support for micro-enterprises.
    • Operational from 2020-21 to 2025-26, with a total outlay of ₹10,000 crore.
    • By October 31, 2024:
      • Assistance approved for 1,08,580 micro food processing enterprises.
  3. Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI):

    • Aims to develop global food manufacturing champions and promote Indian brands in global markets.
    • Implemented from 2021-22 to 2026-27 with a ₹10,900 crore allocation.
    • Achievements:
      • Assistance sanctioned to 171 food processing companies under various categories.
