Agriculture Minister Reviews Schemes with States, Targets 3.5-4% Growth for FY25

On Saturday, Agriculture Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan held a virtual meeting with state agriculture ministers to review various schemes and seek suggestions on ongoing programs and budget allocations ahead of the Union Budget.

During the meeting, Chouhan expressed satisfaction with the agriculture and allied sectors' projected growth rate of 3.5-4% for the 2024-25 fiscal year and encouraged state governments to accelerate their efforts, according to an official statement.

He acknowledged the State Bank of India’s report, which highlighted a significant milestone: the rural poverty rate dropped below 5% in FY24, compared to 7.2% in FY23.

The minister emphasized the Centre's six-point strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector. This includes increasing per-hectare production through ICAR-led research and new seed varieties, reducing production costs, promoting micro-irrigation, encouraging farm mechanization, adopting new technologies, and introducing innovative agricultural methods.

Chouhan also highlighted the progress of flagship initiatives like PM-KISAN, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the DAP fertilizer subsidy, Kisan Credit Cards, and Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PMAASA).

“There is continuous progress in the agriculture sector, and we are collectively making efforts to improve it. I am confident that with shared suggestions and collaboration, we will refine our schemes and move forward together,” Chouhan stated.

The meeting was attended by Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and other senior ministry officials.
