Culinary Academy of Las Vegas Breaks Ground on CALV Forward Initiative

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) officially broke ground on the CALV Forward project, a major initiative aimed at expanding training opportunities to meet the demands of Las Vegas' rapidly growing hospitality sector. This significant investment in CALV's future will modernize and expand the academy’s facilities, providing enhanced educational experiences for both aspiring and current hospitality professionals.

“This project will allow us to increase training capacity, modernize our facilities, and expand the pipeline of trained workers, all while offering critical opportunities for upward economic mobility,” said Dr. Bobbi Damrow, CEO of CALV. “Predominantly funded by Clark County and the State of Nevada, the CALV Forward initiative includes 30,500 square feet of newly renovated and expanded space.”

Project Highlights:

  • Renovations to the student-operated Westside Bistro and kitchen
  • A new public-facing, student-operated coffee shop
  • Innovative new housekeeping training concept rooms
  • Newly updated food and beverage classrooms
  • Expanded spaces for English language and continuing education classes
  • Renovations focused on student success and supportive services

“Since 1993, CALV has trained over 60,000 individuals for careers in the Las Vegas hospitality industry, with approximately 30% of students coming from the five most underserved ZIP codes in Clark County,” said Board Trustee D. Taylor, representing UNITE HERE. “Our collaborations with over 30 public and private agencies have contributed to an 80% graduation rate, with 88% of graduates securing immediate employment.”

Matt Krystofiak, board trustee representing The Venetian Resort Las Vegas, praised the collaborative efforts that made the project possible. “This initiative is a testament to the power of partnership and shared vision, and we’re grateful to the legislators whose support helped make it a reality.”
