Union Cabinet Approves Extension of One-Time Special Package for DAP Fertilizers
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an extension of the One-Time Special Package for Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) beyond the existing Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) scheme. Effective from January 1, 2025, the extension provides an additional subsidy of ₹3,500 per metric ton and will remain in effect until further notice.
This decision ensures the sustainable availability of DAP at affordable prices for farmers, addressing challenges posed by global market fluctuations and geopolitical tensions, as highlighted in the official press release.
Under the proposal, the additional subsidy of ₹3,500 per MT will supplement the NBS subsidy, enabling a stable and smooth supply of DAP to farmers.
Since April 2010, 28 grades of Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers, including DAP, have been provided at subsidized rates under the NBS scheme. Despite ongoing global challenges, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to stabilizing fertilizer prices and supporting farmers.
In July 2024, a similar package was approved for the period from April 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024, with an estimated financial outlay of ₹2,625 crore. This initiative maintained price stability for DAP during critical agricultural seasons, reflecting the government’s farmer-centric approach.
