Increase in Rabi Crop Sowing Areas Observed in Gujarat

Rabi Crop Sowing Expands in Gujarat, Driven by Favorable Conditions and Record Prices

Gujarat Agriculture Minister Raghavji Patel stated that ongoing sowing activities in some regions are expected to further increase the total sown area. Favorable rains and last year’s record-breaking prices for Rabi crops have contributed to this growth.

The state has witnessed a significant rise in Rabi crop sowing, reaching 47.55 lakh hectares—an increase of 2.35 lakh hectares compared to the same period last year.

Key highlights include:

  • Wheat: The sown area rose from 12.20 lakh hectares to 13.42 lakh hectares.
  • Pulses: A notable jump from 6.75 lakh hectares to 9.11 lakh hectares, with significant growth in gram cultivation.
  • Cumin: A decline from 5.61 lakh hectares to 4.74 lakh hectares.
  • Other Spices: Fennel and isabgol saw reductions, while coriander experienced a slight increase.

This trend reflects robust growth for grains and pulses in Gujarat, though challenges persist for certain oilseeds and spice crops.
